Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor, journalist and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. As a child living in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began as journalist for television and radio within Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. Mitchell joined CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Then, she became a Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. In 1981 she started reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named the chief journalist for Congress. She was appointed chief congressional correspondent in the year 1992. was appointed to be the chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter in NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the show. Mitchell was on the panel at the debate in 1988 in the 1988 debate between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell has a husband, Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in journalism. In 2004, it was the year that Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her efforts to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on for the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell covered a wide range of interesting stories including the Iran-contra affair and budget tax reform. She traveled with Ronald Reagan on numerous trips for world summits and wrote frequently.
